Beatles.ru club sent an open letter to Sir Paul McCartney with a request to perform a special song at his concert in Moscow

Dear Paul!

We would like to address you on behalf of millions of your fans in the former Soviet Union.

We have a special request and would like to ask you to do one song that you’re not playing this time in your “On the Run” tour.

In order to find out what song is especially popular with your fans, we, supported by your Moscow promoter SAV Entertainment, took a vote among the fans on the website www.beatles.ru, which currently has over 25000 members, and in the three social networks: Facebook, Twitter and Vkontakte.

We made a list of 40 songs that are not included in the “On the Run” tour setlist and asked your fans to pick that they love the most. Following the voting results, we ended up with the five songs listed below (in order of the allocation of votes):

It’s very likely that after reading this you’ll think that your Russian fans’ choice is quite unusual. That is why we would like to explain why people have picked those songs.

It was very difficult to find a way to listen to music from abroad in Soviet times. The only songs we could hear on the radio, TV and stage were those approved by the Ministry of Culture. The only way to listen to the bands from other parts of the world was to get a hold of the magnetic tape recordings or so called gramophone records “on bones”.

Back in the 70s “Monkberry Moon Delight” was released as a bootleg, people would listen to this record over and over again, and it's fair to say that this song became your first major solo hit in the USSR and it never lost its status. Even though music fans and amateur rock bands didn’t speak English well enough, they were immediately hooked by a remarkably catchy tune and would sing it with abandon at the parties.

Данная пластинка вышла на 3 месяца раньше нового официального релиза "McCartney II" в составе Paul McCartney Archive Collection и представляла для коллекционеров некоторый интерес. Однако, после официального релиза эти записи потеряли свою актуальность. Практически все композиции вошли в новое официальное издание. Правда, "Blue Sway" на данном бутлеге представлена в своём искомом виде. А композиция "Sunshine Sometime" была написана раньше и не имеет никакого отношения к альбому "McCartney II".
Тем не менее, пластинка довольна интересна для коллекционеров редких записей на виниле. Она встречается с двумя разновидностями этикеток: с надписями композиций на фоне чёрно-белой фотографии Пола Маккартни и просто с белыми чистыми этикетками. Пластинка вкладывается в тонкий белый внутренний пакет и имеет полностью чёрный конверт, без каких-либо надписей. Именно поэтому мне не понятно, почему она называется "Balearic Rarities 1", ведь нигде этого наименования нет.

"Beatles For Sale on Parlophone Records by Bruce Spizer & Frank Daniels

В августе 2011 года Брюс на Битлз-фестивале презентовал свою новую книгу «Beatles For Sale On Parlophone Records».  Наконец появилось то волшебное издание о британских битловских релизах, которое так долго все ждали. Все предыдущие попытки систематизировать британскую виниловую дискографию квартета «Битлз» были примитивными и не раскрывали даже на половину данную тему. В книге Брюса Спайзера на 444 страницах воспроизведено более 700 цветных фотографий плюс вложен 22-х страничный буклет с кратким перечнем всех вариантов прессов представленных в книге. Paul McCartney's "Ocean's Kingdom" out now on CD and vinyl

In the blog on MySpace Paul McCartney placed a next report.

Marking his first foray into the word of dance, Paul has announced the general release of 'Ocean's Kingdom', commissioned by the New York City Ballet. The recording will be released by Decca Records on October 3rd (UK) and Hear Music/Telarc on October 4th (US) and is conducted by John Wilson, produced by John Fraser and performed by The London Classical Orchestra.

'Ocean's Kingdom' is the first time Paul has written an original orchestral score or any kind of music for dance and is the result of a collaboration between Paul and New York City Ballet's Master in Chief Peter Martins, who have worked together to present the world premiere of a new ballet for the company's 2011/2012 season this September.

Though the work is Paul's first ballet, he approached the project in the same way he writes all other music, driven by his heart rather than his head and inspired by feeling rather than specific technical knowledge. While this may have been another new turn for his staggeringly varied career to take, Paul knew it had to be influenced by his own personal experience and that he needed to create a story the audience would find equally compelling and moving.

Paul's first step was to visit the Royal Opera House to see Adolphe Adam's 'Giselle', danced by the Royal Ballet. Afterwards, Paul met the dancers and discussed the work with them, realising as he did so that he was still without a central theme to his work. Keen to tell a story through his music, Paul decided to focus on the purity of the ocean and within just two months, the first draft had been completed. He then went through the music again thinking specifically of the ballet itself, thereby creating a world featuring distinctive characters and a vibrant underworld kingdom. Finally Paul spent many more weeks working alongside Peter Martins to refine the work, before Peter created the choreography with the NYCB dancers.

An hour long score featuring four stunning movements – Ocean's Kingdom, Hall of Dance, Imprisonment and Moonrise – the ballet tells of a love story within the story of an underwater world whose people are threatened by the humans of Earth. A potently expressive and richly varied work, the score is Paul's most challenging and emotionally complex yet. As he explains: "What was interesting was writing music that meant something expressively rather than just writing a song. Trying to write something that expressed an emotion – so you have fear, love, anger, sadness to play with and I found that exciting and challenging."

The premiere of the ballet 'Ocean's Kingdom' will take place at NYCB's Fall Gala on Thursday 22nd September 2011 while the release of the orchestral score will follow a month later, available digitally, on CD and on vinyl. It was recorded in June in London.

The artwork that accompanies the release is equally striking and inventive. Though it seems to suggest a city skyline, it is actually a digital readout of the notes from the ballet score.

Although this is his first orchestral score for dance, Paul is already quite at home in the world of classical music. His back catalogue already carries four classical albums, the most recent of which was the Classical BRIT Award winning 'Ecce Cor Meum (Behold My Heart)'; a work for chorus and orchestra in four movements that was released in 2006

The Beatles first album “Please Plrase Me” in stereo on gold & black Parlophone label was sold for 11.760 British Pounds (18.257 USD). During auction 45 bids were done.

The Beatles last album “Let It Be” complete box set was sold for 3.350 British Pounds (5.200 USD). During auction 40 bids were done.

Это такая разновидность фольклорной музыки с элементами джаза, блюза и кантри, в которой для музыкального сопровождения песен, кроме традиционных акустических инструментов (гитара, банджо…) применялись “подручные средства”, такие как стиральные доски, расчёски, стеклянные стаканы, пилы и т.п. Этот стиль музыки предшествовал появлению рок-н-ролла.

Джон Леннон вместе со своими школьными друзьями Питером Шоттоном и Эриком Гриффитсом в 1956 году организовал группу The Quarrymen (дословно «Парни из каменоломни»). На самом деле, в самом названии группы скрывается игра слов от названия школы, в которой учились ребята - Quarry Bank Grammar School. Вновь образованная группа играла в стиле скиффл, а одним из их кумиров был Лонни Донеган.
